Head Coach
Tracy Cook
British Triathlon Federation Level 3 Coach | ASA Level 2 | SEQ Level 2 Coaching Open Water Swimming | Spinning Instructor | Strength & Conditioning (BTF) | Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist | BSc + QTS Sport & Exercise Science
Tracy Cook is a qualified Sports Teacher, Coach and Sports & Soft Tissue Therapist who has founded the Dorset Junior Triathlon Hub. Tracy brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience of a range of sporting disciplines gained over many years as a Head of Sports in the education sector and, through advanced training programmes, as a successful competitive athlete at local, GB and World event levels.
Tracy was introduced to Triathlon in 2007 by a colleague who competed at elite level in the 1980’s, when Triathlon was in its early days in the UK. Tracy’s enjoyment of, and success in, the sport led her to establish a school Triathlon club and to partner with a local club (Synergie Coaching) to help bridge the gap between school and local community sports.
As Tracy immersed herself in competitive Triathlon, she learned to coach all aspects of the sport in a school setting. She then went on to become a BTF Level 2 Coach in 2015, started coaching a local triathlon club when she left teaching, and qualified as a Level 5 Sports Soft Tissue Therapist in 2017 running her business from home and continues to devote her time to her real passion helping others to reach their full potential.
Tracy has worked with many athletes in the therapeutic setting, using her knowledge and understanding of how the body responds to stress-load, both physically and mentally, so that they gain a better understanding of the training effect on soft tissue, increase self-awareness of how the body responds and feels and, ultimately, develop within them the understanding they need to make better choices when planning training, reducing the risk of training overreach and consequent injury.
Tracy’s philosophy is to enable and support people to achieve their training, nutrition, wellbeing and performance goals, promoting self-discovery, self-learning and personal growth in ways that are fun, helping them to develop and improve their technique, build self-confidence and plan winning strategies, thereby empowering them to have more control over their training and preparation for competitive events
Coach
Phila Burt
British Triathlon Federation Level 2 Coach | ASA Level 2 | BSc Psychology
Philla comes from a background of competitive swimming; swimming at county, regional and national level.
She also competed for her county at Netball and National level cross-country.
When she was 15 she turned her attention to Biathle and Biathlon, gaining selection for the British Team and competing in South Africa in Biathle (swim-run-swim).
Sport has always been a personal passion for Philla and she has always found time to integrate it into her life; even when she was busy teaching.
After having her children, her attention turned to Triathlon, where she got well and truly bitten by the Triathlon bug! Helped by her coach, she managed to gain Qualification for the British Team for Sprint distance. She continues to train and race today and is training towards her first 70.3 distance.
With a huge enthusiasm for junior sport, a Masters degree in Psychology, and an Ofsted rated ‘outstanding’ teacher in an inner city-London school, she felt that gaining her coaching qualification was a natural progression.
Philla’s coaching ethos is very much focussed on the whole child. She has first hand experience of what it feels like to be a child who is training and competing at high levels and being pulled in many directions.
She feels strongly that athletes should be coached holistically; takes time to get to know the children - their passions and their background. This is so that she can get the best out of them, helping them to enjoy a balanced training schedule, but most importantly, that they leave her having self-belief and a love for sport for life!
